Three Passes Trek in the Everest region of Nepal is one of the adventurous hiking trips in Nepal. The names of passes in the Three Passes trek are Kongma La (5,535 meters/ 18,159 feet), Cho La (5420 meters/ 17,782 feet), and Renjo La (5,340 meters/ 17,520 feet). The Three Passes Trek is also famous by the name of Everest Circuit Trek because it links the four distinct valleys of Everest territory. They are Bhotekoshi, Gokyo, Khumbu, and Imja Tse.

The major highlights of the trek are to view the renowned high Himalayan peaks including Mount Everest, to explore the remote and beautiful landscapes including narrow ridges, and to feel the unique taste of nature and culture of the Himalayan region.

Thus, most of the trekkers who go for Three Pass Trek also visit Everest Base Camp to visit the foothills of the top of the world and to climb Kalapatthar for the closeup view of Mount Everest and Khumbu glacier.

The Three pass trek is challenging hiking as the trekkers need to cross over 5000 meters of mountain passes however it does not require any climbing skills. Everyone who is physically fit and has strong determination can complete this great trek.

Three Passes Trek in Nepal starts from Lukla. From Lukla, the trail follows the classic route of Everest Base Camp via Phakding, Namche Bazaar then towards Dingboche. From Dingboche the trail branches off Chhukung Valley. Afterward, it rises with a climb to Kongma La Pass to Lobuche and Everest Base Camp.

Trekking continues over Cho La Pass to Gokyo Lake, then crosses the Renjo La Pass down to Thame. Subsequently following the classical trail it drops down to Lukla where this adventure trekking ends. From Lukla, you back to Kathmandu to end the overall trip.

 ITINERARY OF THREE PASSES TREK WITH A DISTANCE

Day 1: Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. You will be met by our Tour officer and he will escort you to the hotel. O/n at Hotel in Kathmandu
Day 2: Flight to Lukla. Trekking from Lukla to Phakding. Distance: 8 km/ 4.9 miles. Altitude: 2840 meters – 2610 meters. Walking 4 hours. Night Stay at Mountain Lodge.
Day 3: Trekking from Phakding to Namche Bazaar. Distance: 11 km/ 6.8 miles. Altitude: 2610 meters – 3440 meters. Walking 6/7 hours. Night Stay at Mountain Lodge.
Day 4: Acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar. You can do the day trip. Night Stay at Mountain Lodge.
Option I: Day trip to Shyangboche/ Everest View Hotel and back to Namche Bazaar. Distance: 4.6 km/ 2.8 miles. Walking 2/ 3 hours. Night Stay at Mountain Lodge.
Option II: Day trip to Shyangboche/ Everest View Hotel (3440 meters) to Kumjung Village (3780 meters) and back to Namche Bazaar. Distance: 9 km/ 5.5 miles. Walking 5/ 6 hours.
Day 5: Trekking from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche. Distance: 11 km/ 6.8 miles. Altitude: 3440 meters – 3860 meters. Walking 5/6 hours. Night Stay at Mountain Lodge.
Day 6: Trekking from Tengboche to Dingboche. Distance: 10.5 km/ 6.5 miles. Altitude: 3860 meters – 4410 meters. Walking 5/6 hours. Night Stay at Mountain Lodge.
Day 7: Trekking from Dingboche to Chhukung. Distance: 5 km/ 3.1 miles. Altitude: 4410 meters – 4730 meters. Walking 2:30/3 hours. Night Stay at Mountain Lodge.
Day 8: Acclimatization day at Chhukung. Night Stay at Mountain Lodge.
Day 9: Trekking from Chhukung to Kongma La Pass to Lobuche. Distance: 11 km/ 6.8 miles. Altitude: 4730 meters – 5535 meters (Kongma La Pass) – 4910 meters. Walking 8/9 hours. Night Stay at Mountain Lodge.
Day 10: Trekking from Lobuche to Everest Base Camp then back to Gorak Shep. Distance: 12 km/ 7.4 miles. Altitude: 4910 meters – 5364 meters (Everest Base Camp) – 5140 meters. Walking 7/8 hours. Night Stay at Mountain Lodge.
Day 11: Early in the morning hike up to Kalapatthar then trek down to Dzongla. Distance: 16 km/ 9.9 miles. Altitude: 5140 meters – 5555 meters (Kalapathar) – 4830 meters. Walking 8 hours.
Day 12: Trek from Dzongla to Cho La Pass to Thangnak. Distance: 9.38 km/ 5.8 miles. Altitude: 4830 meters – 5330 meters (Cho La Pass) – 4700 meters. Walking 8/9 hours. Night Stay at Mountain Lodge.
Day 13: Trek from Thangnak to Gokyo Lake. Distance: 4.4 km/ 2.7 miles. Altitude: 4700 meters – 4790 meters. Walking 3:45/4 hours. Night Stay at Mountain Lodge.
Day 14: Excursion near Gokyo Lake. Night Stay at Mountain Lodge.
Option I: Hike up to Gokyo Ri (5360 meters) and back to Gokyo Lake (4790 meters). Distance: 4 km/ 2.4 miles. Walking 3/4 hours.
Option II: Hike to 4th Lake (4870 meters) and 5th Lake (4990 meters) and back to Gokyo Lake (4790 meters). Distance: 14 km/ 8.6 miles. Walking 6/7 hours.
Day 15: Trekking from Gokyo to Renjo La Pass to Marlung. Distance: 13 km/ 8.07 miles. Altitude: 4790 meters – 5360 meters (Renjo La Pass) – 4210 meters. Walking 7/7:30 hrs. Night Stay at Mountain Lodge.
Day 16: Trekking from Marlung to Thame to Namche Bazaar. Distance: 18 km/ 11.1 miles. Altitude: 4210 meters – 3820 meters (Thame) – 3440 meters. Walking 7/8 hours. O/n at Tea House.
Day 17: Trekking from Namche Bazaar to Lukla. Distance: 19 km/ 11.8 miles. Altitude: 3440 meters – 2840 meters. Walking 7/8 hours. Night Stay at Mountain Lodge.
Day 18: Flight from Lukla and back to Kathmandu. Night Stay at Hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 19: Departure to the home country. Our tour officer will drop you at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu and see you off. End of Service. Or you may take optional side tours.

This is a basic checklist of the essential items that you should not forget to bring with you during your Three Passes Trek Everest:

• A sturdy pair of trekking boots with good ankle support
• Rucksack or daypack (50 to 65 liters) with waterproof cover
