Trip Overview


Helambu Trek is an easy scenic trekking trail in Nepal. Helambu trekking is the nearest trekking route from Kathmandu that located to its north direction. This route is also linked with Langtang Gosainkunda trail, another famous Himalayan trekking route.

Helambu Trekking leads to explore Helambu valley. Although it is near to capital, the nature and the simplicity of the locals are unchanged or untouched by modernity.

Helambu Trekking route incorporates waterfalls, forests of bamboo and rhododendron trees, terraced paddy land. The route goes through many Sherpa villages. The villages have Buddhist monastery enshrining statues of Buddha, Padmasambhava (early Buddhist teacher also called by Rinpoche), and Chenresig (Avalokitesvara).

Helambu valley trekking offers inspiring Himalayan scenery of Langtang, Ganesh Himal and, Rolwaling region. The highlighted peaks you see during trekking are Gauri Shankar (7145m), Jugal Himal (5825m), Dorje Lakpa (6988m), Ganesh Himal (7406m) and, Langtang Lirung (7246m).

Helambu Trek is one of perfect option for those trekkers who have less time for the trekking holiday in Nepal and want to experience closeness to the Himalayas without going at high altitude. This trip is fit for all age groups. To complete this trip it requires just one week.

Helambu trekking trail begins from Sundarijal. It is one and a half an hour of drive from Kathmandu. In the beginning the trail ascends on to the Shivapuri ridge. Then it descends one hour to reach Chisapani. Chispani is one of the best viewpoints of this trip.

Leaving Chisapani the trail descends all the way to Chauki Bhanjyang and again ascends to Kutumsagh. Ascend continues till Tharepati. Tharepati, at an altitude of 3567 m, is the highest point of this trekking. From here you enjoy spectacular Himalayan views.

Afterward, it descends to Melamchi Gaun, then flat and ascends to Tarke Ghyang. After Tarke Ghyang it is the easy way to reach Sermathang and Melamchi Pul Bazaar. In Melamchi Bazaar you catch a drive to return to Kathmandu via Panchkhal and Dhulikhel.

Helambu Trekking can also be done together with Langtang Gosainkunda Trekking. We, Excellent Himalaya Trek and Expedition organize this trip individually as well as merging to Langtang Trek according to the interest and schedule of trekkers. The best season of Helambu Trekking is in autumn (Sep, Oct, Nov) and spring (March, Apr, May). However, it can be done any date of the year. Driving 1 hour 30 minutes. Walking 4 to 5 hours. O/n at Mountain Lodge in Chisapani.

Walking 5 hours. O/n at Mountain Lodge in Kutumsang.

Walking 5 hours. O/n at Mountain Lodge in Tharepati.

Walking 5 hours. O/n at Mountain Lodge in Melamchi Gaun.

Walking 5 hours. O/n at Mountain Lodge in Tarkeghyang.

Walking 4 hours. O/n at Mountain Lodge in Shermathang.

Walking 5 hours. O/n at Mountain Lodge in Melamche Bazaar.

Driving 4 hours.  Evening farewell dinner with Nepali Cultural show. O/n at Hotel in Kathmandu.
