Trip Overview

Tent Peak Climbing is an ideal peak summit for those climbers who do not intend to face difficult technical challenges in climbing. The Tent Peak, locally known as Tharpu Chuli, is at the central location in Annapurna Sanctuary.

The height of Tent Peak is 5663m/18,563ft which is short than Hiunchuli and Singu Chuli, the other trekking peaks in Annapurna Sanctuary.

The record says Tent Peak was firstly summit by Jimmy Roberts in 1956 through the Southeast Ridge. The ascent of this peak is technically easy. So, it can be climbed by less experienced climbers who have some knowledge of mountaineering. To ascend this peak it requires ice climbing equipment

Tent Peak climbing needed climbing permit cost $350 USD for a team of up to four members from the Nepal Mountaineering Association before 2017. Now it does not need it. It has been declared as the Royalty Free Peak.

Tent Peak has normally two climbing routes along the Southwest Ridge and West Face ridge. There are few vertical and ridge climbing parts that make the climb a little bit challenging for those climbers who are attempting a trekking peak for the first time.

The panoramic views from the summit include Annapurna South 7219m, Annapurna I 8091m, Annapurna III 7555m, Baraha Shikar 7647m, Kangshar Kang 7485m, Tarke Kang 7193m, Gangapurna 7455m, Fish Tail 6993m and Hiunchuli 6331m.

The other highlights of this trip are beautiful scenery, lush forests, colorful flowers, rivers and villages during the trekking. The best time of Tent Peak climbing is in months of April, May, September, October, and November.

The trekking starts from Nayapul. The trail passes several villages along the way include Ullere, Ghorepani, Tadapani, Chhomrong, Dovan (2700m/8,858ft). After reaching Annapurna Base Camp a further high camp is used at 5000m.

From high camp, the climb begins after the crossing of the glacier the ridge, which is broad at first, becomes knife-edged for the final 60m to the summit. After summit descends to Machapuchhare Base Camp and continues trekking. The trek ends in Nayapul.  Then you drive back Pokhara and from Pokhara to Kathmandu.
