Tibet Tour 9 days: Lhasa Everest Base Camp Travel is the combination trip of cultural and natural highlights of Tibet. This tour presents to traveling of major tourist spots of Tibet. They are Lhasa, Gyantse, Shigatse, Sakya and Everest Base Camp. Each destination characterizes by its unique feature.

Lhasa Everest Base Camp Travel starts from traveling around Lhasa where you visit Potala Palace (The Winter Palace of Dalai Lamas), Jokhang Temple (The most sacred temple in Tibet), Barkhor Market (Ancient round street market), Norbulingka (The summer palace of Dalai Lama) and two influential monasteries: Sera and Drepung Monastery.

On the way to Gyantse visit Yamdrok Lake (Sacred Lake of purely turquoise color water). In Gyantse visit of Palcho Monastery built in the 15th century, Kumbum Stupa (The giant temple of 1000 Buddha statues) and ancient fortress.

From Gyantse, you move to Shigatse where you visit Tashilhunpo (The grand monastery has a giant statue of Maitreya Buddha means coming Buddha) followed by sightseeing of Sakya Monastery (It has a collection of Tibetan murals, sacred Buddhist scrolls, books, and thangkas).

Then, you start your journey to Everest Base Camp with the view of the amazing landscape of Tibetan Plateau. Before Everest Base Camp you stay over in Rongbuk, the world’s highest Buddhist temple located at 4980 m above the sea level.

From Everest Base Camp it will certainly be a great experience to come face-to-face with Mount Everest (8848 meters), the tallest mountain on earth and also can view of other Himalayan peaks. After being in Everest Base Camp, you return back to Lhasa where you end this 9 days trip to Tibet.

Highlight: Visit of Potala Palace (The landmark of Lhasa used to be the winter palace for the Dalai Lamas was built as the center of Tibetan government by the fifth Dalai Lama in 1645. This Palace is famous for its grand buildings, complicated constructions, devotional atmosphere and splendid artworks), Jokhang Temple (Located in central Lhasa this temple is considered as the most sacred temple in Tibet with four storeys with a golden top. It attracts crowds of prostrating Tibetan pilgrims and curious foreign tourists every day) and Barkhor Market (It is a very ancient round street market surrounding the Jokhang Temple. It shows the original outlook of Lhasa with varied shops stand on both sides of street).

Highlight: Visit of Norbulingka Palace (The summer residence of the successive Dalai Lamas from the 1780s to 1950s. It was built by the Seventh Dalai Lama in the beginning of 1755. It is also the biggest man-made garden in Tibet Autonomous Region), Drepung Monastery (The largest and most influential monastery of Gelupa sect (Yellow Hat) of Tibetan Buddhism is located at the foot of Mountain Gambo Utse, 5 km west from Lhasa city. Built in 1416 this monastery is famous for the high standards of its Buddhist academic study) and Sera Monastery (One of three famous monasteries of Lhasa 3 km north from the city is also dedicated to Gelugpa Sect. Built in 1419 this magnificent monastery has Scriptures written in gold powder, fine statues, scent cloth and unparalleled murals. Here every day debates are conducted by the lamas on Buddhist doctrines).

Highlight: On the way to Gyantse visit of Yamdrok, one of the three largest lakes in Tibet is surrounded by many snow-capped mountains and view of Karola Glacier. In Gyntse visit of Palcho Monastery also called Pelkor Chode Monastery (This monastery was built in the early 15th century. The wall paintings and Buddha statues in the monastery are worth seeing), Kubum Stupa (This temple is believed to be the largest such structure in Tibet with 9 floors, 77 Buddha halls, 108 doors and more than 1000 Buddha statues) and Gyantse Dzong (This is the fortress standing out on a rocky hill in a basin, it is truly eye-catching).

Driving distance: 245 km. Driving time: 5 hour. Elevation: 4000 meter/ 13123 feet

Highlight: In Shigatse visit of Tashilhunpo monastery is the seat of successive Panchen Lamas founded by the First Dalai Lama in 1447 has more than 57 halls and 3600 rooms. This monastery has a giant statue of Maitreya Buddha (Future Buddha) which is the largest of its kind in China. The statue is 26 meters (85 ft) tall and contains 279 kilograms of gold and 150,000 kilograms of brass and copper. In Sakya visit of Sakya Monastery built in 1073 is the major monastery of the Sakya sect Tibetan Buddhism. This monastery has attraction that’s known for its collection of Tibetan murals, chanting monks, sacred Buddhist scrolls and books and thangkas.

Overnight in Sakya

Driving distance: 230 km. Driving time: 4 hour 40 minutes. Elevation: 4980 meter/ 16339 feet

Highlight: Driving through Pang La pass (5050 m) and enjoy view of world’s high peaks of Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, Gyachung and Cho Oyu. In Rongbuk visit of Rongbuk Monastery considered as the world’s highest Buddhist temple located at 4980 m above the sea level. It was built by a local lama in about 1899. It is a five-tier building but only 2 floors are in use now. In the frontispiece of the main hall there are the statues of Sakyamuni and Geru Rinpoche. And the mural paintings inside are especially worthy of appreciation. Walking forward from Rongbuk Monastery, you will see the famous Rongbuk Glacier Zone, which is the largest among all the hundreds of glaciers formed around the Mt. Everest.

Overnight at tent or guest house in Rongbuk

Driving distance: 360 km. Driving time: 7 hour. Elevation: 3836 meter/ 12585 feet

Highlight: Early morning enjoy Sunrise over Mount Everest. Drive to Everest Base Camp (5200 meter/ 17060 feet) which is 4 km from Rongbuk. From Everest Base Camp (5250 meter) you can enjoy great views of high mountains like Cho Oyu (8201 meter), Shisapangma (8013 meter), Everest (8848 meter) and others. It will certainly be a great experience to come face-to-face with the greatest mountain on earth. Then drive back to Shigatse.

Driving distance: 270 km. Driving time: 5 hour 40 minutes. Elevation: 3658 meter/ 12001 feet

Highlight: Driving along the Brahmaputra River (Yaluzangbu River); visit of Nyethang Buddha, the largest and highest stone Buddha Sculpture in Tibet colorfully painted by golden, red, blue and black color.
