Trip Overview
Langtang trek is a pleasant short hike nearest to the Himalayas from Kathmandu. This trek route passes through Langtang Valley, the wonderful alpine zone into Langtang National Park’s territory. Langtang National Park is the first declared National Park in the Himalayan land of Nepal. It was in the year 1971.
Langtang Region is linked with Tibet, China. Thus the landscape, culture, and lifestyle of this area are somehow similar to Tibet. It is said that the ancestors of local people in Langtang migrated from Tibet hundreds of years ago to settle there. Now, local people introduced themselves as Tamang people. Tamangs are one of the ethnic groups in Nepal who especially live in the middle part hills of Nepal. They follow the Buddhist religion and visit monasteries, and chortens for the pray.
Langtang is a relatively less demanding, less effort easy trek. However, it rewards you with beautiful Himalayan views of Langtang Lirung (7246 meters), Dorje Lakpa (6966 meters), Gang Cheenpo (6388 meters), and Ganesh Himal (7429 meters). Further, it allows you to explore amazing scenery comprised of alpine nature like meadows, glaciers, rivers, forests, etc.
It has an intriguing anecdote about the name of Langtang for this region. As indicated by the legend, one day a lama (Buddhist Saint) lost his yak. When following that runaway yak he found this excellent valley. Later this zone was declared for the sake of Langtang. In the Tibetan language, the word ‘lang’ means ‘yak’, and ‘tang’ signifies to follow. In the upper part of this valley, you will find many yaks.
Langtang trek starts from Syabru Besi. Syabru Besi is 6 hours of driving distance from Kathmandu. From Syabru the trail swings north into the Langtang valley crossing the river several times along forest of oak and rhododendron forests. After the reach of Langtang village, the trail moves towards Kyanjin Gompa crossing through the glacial moraine.
Kyanjin Gompa is the ultimate destination for this trekking. There you will have one extra day to explore its beauty. On an extra day, you may visit glaciers, hike up to Tsergo Ri (5033 meters) or Kyanjin Ri (4779 meters), visit the Cheese factory, etc. The next day you retrace your footsteps to Syabrubesi. Finally, the trip ends with the drive back to Katmandu.
Langtang Trek Itinerary with Distance in Km and Miles
In Langtang Trek, the hiking starts from Syabrubesi. After the visit to Langtang Village and Kyanjin, you again come back to Syabrubeshi to end the hiking. The total distance of the Langtang trek route is 65 kilometers/ 40 miles/. You will finish this hiking distance in 6 days of trekking. The day-wise/ daily hiking distance and estimated walking time hours are as below.
Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu International Airport. You will be received by our Tour officer and he will escort you to the hotel by car. Overnight at Hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 02: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (Altitude 1467 meters/ 4813 feet). Overnight at Mountain Lodge.

Estimated Time: 6 to 7 Hours
Day 03: Trekking from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (Altitude 2470m/ 8104 feet). Overnight at Mountain Lodge.
Hiking Distance: 11.3+ Km/ 7+ miles
Estimated Time: 6 hours
Day 04: Trekking from Lama Hotel to Langtang village (Altitude 3430 meters/ 11253 feet). Overnight at Mountain Lodge.
Hiking Distance: 14.8 Km/ 9.1 miles
Estimated Time: 6 hours
Day 05: Trekking from Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa (Alt. 3870 meters/12697 feet). Overnight at Mountain Lodge.
Hiking Distance: 6.8 Km/ 4.2 miles
Estimated Time: 3 hours
Day 06: Exploration in Kyanjin Gompa. Optional Hike to either Kyanji Ri Peak or Tsergo Ri. Overnight at Mountain Lodge.
Hiking Distance: Kyanjin Gompa – Kyanjin Ri peak (4600m) – Kyanjin Gompa: 5 km/ 3.1 miles
Estimated Time: 3 hours
Day 07: Trekking from Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel (Altitude 2470 meters/ 8104 feet). Overnight at Mountain Lodge.
Hiking Distance: 21.6 Km/ 13.4 miles
Estimated Time: 7 hours
Day 08: Trekking from Lama Hotel to Syabrubesi (Altitude 1467 meters/ 4813 feet). Overnight at Mountain Lodge.
Hiking Distance: 11.3+ Km/ 7+ miles
Estimated Time: 4:30/5 hours
Day 09: Drive from Syabrubesi to Kathmandu (Altitude 1350m/ 4429 ft). Overnight at Hotel in Kathmandu.
Driving Distance: 145 km/ 90 miles
Estimated Time: 6 to 7 Hours
Day 10: Departure to your home country. Our tour officer will drop you at Kathmandu international airport and see you off. End of Service. Or you may take optional side tours.
