Poon Hill Trek also said by Ghorepani Poon Hill is a very famous scenic hiking tour in Nepal. Although the trekking is just four days, it provides great views of the Himalayas. Poon Hill trek is especially popular among those people who do not have time for long days of trekking in Nepal but still want to view the beautiful Himalayan range.

The major destination of this trek is Poon Hill. It is at an elevation of 3,210 meters from sea level. This hill is like a viewpoint of Mount Dhaulagiri (8167m), Mount Annapurna South (7219m), Mount Annapurna I (8091m), Mount Tukuche (6920m), Mount Nilgiri (6940m), Mount Hiunchuli (6441m) and Mount Tarke Kang (7193m).

A top of Himalayan views and beautiful Sunrise, this trek also offers you to see the distinctive flora and fauna of mountain area and to explore the simple and happy lifestyle of rural Nepalese people.

Pokhara, a beautiful town with lakes, is the gateway to the Ghorepani Poonhill trek. Pokhara city is 200 km west of Kathmandu. From Pokhara, you will drive one and a half hours to Nayapul. You start trekking from Nayapul by walking along the bank of Modi Khola to reach Birethanti village. Then you climb steadily up the side to reach villages named by Tikhe Dhunga and Ulleri. These villages give different cultural experiences to all. You will continue the ascent getting to Ghorepani through oak and rhododendrons forests. In the spring season, colorful rhododendrons bloom in that forest. In springtime whole hill actually turns into the gardens of beautiful flowers mostly in red color.

From Ghorepani, you will excursion to Poonhill early morning to enjoy the sunrise over the high Himalayas. Then you retrace down to Ghorepani. After breakfast, you continue trekking following the pine and rhododendron forest. Next, you pass a few other villages named Tadapani and Ghandruk.

Ghandruk is a nice-looking village inhabited by Gurung people.  This village also offers dazzling views of Mount Fish Tail, Mount Annapurna South, and Mount Himchuli. From Ghandruk, you take a short hike to catch a jeep or bus to travel back to Pokhara. or you can trek from Ghandruk to Nayapul from where start a drive to Pokhara.  From Pokhara, you drive back to Kathmandu.

Poon Hill Trek Itinerary with Hiking Distance in Km/ Miles

Day 1: Arrival at Kathmandu International airport. We pick up at the airport by our private vehicle and transfer to the hotel. Overnight at Hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 2: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara by Tourist Coach. Driving 7 hours. Overnight at Hotel in Pokhara.

Driving Distance: 205 Km/ 127 miles.
Estimated Time: 6 to 7 hours.

Day 3: Drive from Pokhara to Nayapul. Driving Distance: 40 km. Driving 1 hour 30 minutes. Trek from Nayapul to Tikhedhunga to Ulleri (Height. 1960 m/ 6400 ft). Overnight at Mountain Lodge.

Hiking Distance: 9 km + 1.8= 10.8 km/ 6.7 miles
Estimated Hiking: 5 to 6 hours

Day 4: Trek from Ulleri to Ghorepani (Height. 2860 m/ 9295 ft). Overnight at Mountain Lodge.

Hiking Distance:  10.3 km/ 6.4 miles
Estimated Hiking Time: 5 hours.

Day 5: Early morning hiking from Ghorepani to Poon Hill (Height 3210 m/ 10531 ft) to Ghorepani. Then trek from Ghorepani to Tadapani (Height 2630 m/ 8548 ft). Overnight at Mountain Lodge

Ghorepani to Poon Hill to Ghorepani: 2.9 km/ 1.8 miles
Total Hiking Distance: 11 km/ 6.8 miles
Estimated Hiking Time: 6 hours.

Day 6: Trek from Tadapani to Ghandruk (Height 2012 m/ 6601 ft). Trek from Ghandruk to Nayapul. Drive from Nayapul to Pokhara. Overnight at Mountain Lodge.

Tadapani to Ghandruk: 6 km/ 3.7 miles
Ghandruk to Nayapul: 13.2 km/ 8.2 miles
Estimated Hiking Time: 7 to 8 hours.
Driving from Nayapul to Pokhara: 40 km (1 hr 30 min)

Or, Trek from Ghandruk to Kimche (about 2 or 3 km hiking). Drive from Kimche to Pokhara (about 3 hours drive). Overnight at Hotel in Pokhara.

Day 07: Drive back from Pokhara to Kathmandu. O/n Hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 08: Departure from Kathmandu, Nepal. Our tour officer will drop you at the Kathmandu international airport and see you off. End of Service.

Note: The walking hour mentioned above may be different according to the pace of trekkers and distance may some different according to the various navigation devices.
