Trip Overview
Mera Peak Climbing is the summit journey of Mera Peak. Mera Peak (6470 meters/ 21247 feet) is the tallest trekking peak in Nepal. This is the most climbed trekking peak after Island Peak. Mera Peak can be climbed without past mountaineering experience. Mera Peak climbing is not like a walk in the park, the several steep sections need ropes, crampons, and ice axes.
To reach Mera Peak there are a couple of approach routes. Most of the trekkers start trek from Lukla. The other alternative approach routes are from the Pangum La and Surke La which are on the Lukla to Tumlingtar walking trail.
Mera Peak was at the first time climbed by J.O.M Roberts and Sen Tenzing in 1953 AD. However, the proper ascent was made by Marcel Jolly, G. Baus and L. Honnis in 1975. They are French Climbers who started climbing following the same route by Roberts but crossing along the joining ridge to the further summit.
Mera Peak Climbing trip is normally 19 days trip from your arrival day in Kathmandu to the final departure from Nepal. However, it can be customized according to your interest in further hiking in Everest Region. This trip starts after half an hour exciting flight from Kathmandu to Lukla.
After land in Lukla Airport, you spend a couple of minutes for the preparation of trekking. After that, you follow the trail that passes through terraced landscapes, beautiful pristine valleys inhabited by Sherpa people. In the route, you will cross paddy fields, forests, some of the frozen waterfalls, and incredible glaciers with amazing views of high mountains.
Before reaching Mera Peak Base Camp, we get you one day rest in Khare for your acclimatization. On that day our climbing guide gives you training on climbing technique like using climbing gears etc. After full day acclimatized in Khare, you trek to Mera Peak Base Camp then to High Camp next day. From High Camp, you will experience the breathtaking panoramic views.
On the 12th day, you start climbing summit early in the morning following the northern route. This gradual climb is with a panoramic mountain sights. Once you reach the top you enjoy on the five high mountains which are 8000 meters above sea level. They are Mt.Everest (8848m), Cho-Oyu (8201m), Lhotse (8516m), Makalu (8463m) and Kanchenjunga (8586m) along with other peaks like Nuptse (7855m) and Chamlang (7319m).
After completing summit you descend back to Lukla following the same route that followed before. You end this adventurous lifetime journey in Lukla and fly back to Kathmandu.
