Himalaya Expedition
Himalaya Expedition is an attempt to reach the highest point of worlds high altitude mountains. The Himalayas are a snow-capped mountain range in South Asia. This range includes over fifty mountains above 7200 meters/ 23600ft in elevation, including ten of the fourteen eight thousand meters peaks. It extends around 2500 kilometers crossing five countries: Nepal, India, Bhutan, Pakistan, and China. It starts from Assam, India in the east and ends with the Indus River, Pakistan in the west.
The Himalayan range separates the plains of the Indian subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau. The name of the range derives from the Sanskrit language. It means ‘Abode of Snow. Himalaya Range is the origin of some of the world’s major rivers like the Indus, the Ganges, and the Brahmaputra. Many Himalayan peaks are sacred in Hinduism and Buddhism.
Mountaineering to the Himalayan Peak is more familiar by the term of Himalaya Expedition. Himalaya Expedition is climbing above tree line region which composed of rock, snow, and ice. Himalaya Expedition is challenging activity with full of joy, pain, and achievement. It requires the aptitude to use climbing equipment such as ice screws, crampons, ropes and ice axes in a proficient manner. Further, it also needs the ability to climb steep snow, and endurance to face the conditions caused by weather changing, avalanche, cold, dehydration, high attitude etc.
Nepal is undoubtedly best destination for Himalaya Expedition. It is the home of eight high peaks among top ten highest mountains in the world above 8000 meters. They are Everest at 8848m/29029ft (1st highest), Kanchenjunga at 8586m/28169ft (3rd highest), Lhotse at 8516m/27940ft (4th highest), Makalu at 8485m/27838ft (5th highest), Cho Oyu at 8188m/26864ft (6th highest), Dhaulagiri I at 8167m/26795ft (7th highest), Manaslu at 8163m/26781 (8th highest) and Annapurna I at 8091m/26545ft (10th highest). According to the record, Nepal has 1310 peaks above 6000 meters of which 238 are already opened for climbing.
Nepal opened its Himalayan Peaks for mountaineering since 1949. Himalaya Expedition becomes more popular all over the world after Sir Ed. Hillary and Tenzing Norgay climbed Mount Everest on 29th May 1953. Every year it is increasing the numbers of enthusiast mountaineers for Nepal Himalayas Expedition whether it is simply climbing a trekking peak or a full mountaineering expedition on 7000 or 8000-meter peaks.
