Trip Overview
Chulu East Peak Climbing is the journey to the summit of Eastern Mountain in Chulu Range. Chulu Range also known as Manang Himal locates north of Annapurna Massif. The height of Chulu East is 6584 meters/ 21068 feet above sea level.
Among several trekking peaks in Nepal, Chulu East is also one of the well-liked peaks by many climbers. Chulu East Peak is technically not too adventurous to ascend despite to be crossed long glacier part.
It is said that the first ascent of Chulu East was by German Expedition team in 1955. But the recorded history says the first summit was by Dick Isherwood & John Noble in 1979. They climbed it through the way of northeast ridge. The summit of Chulu East Climbing grants amazing panoramic views of Mount Annapurna, Mount Dhaulagiri, Mount Manaslu, Mount Gangapurna, Tilicho Peak and Glacier Dome.
Chulu Peak is located very close to Annapurna Circuit Trail. To go for climbing Chulu Peak the route of Annapurna Circuit is followed. After 6-7 hours of driving to Besi Sahar, you start trekking trip along the Marshyangdi River. Through the rocky trail passing through several villages and enjoying diverse topography, you arrive at Yak Kharka.
From Yak Kharka you deviate from the Annapurna Circuit trail and head to Chulu East Base Camp. After one night halt in base camp, you move upward to high camp. The distance from base camp to high camp is around 4.5 km long.
From High Camp, you attempt the summit with a following of northeast ridge. It requires glacier walking skill and steering to successfully reach the bottom of the summit ridge. The steepest line of the entire climb is at the bottom of the summit ridge. After reaching the top you climb down to High camp with the following of Base Camp.
After the base camp, you again come to join with Annapurna circuit trail at Manang. Afterward, you trace the way to Throng La Pass (5416m) then down into the sacred Muktinath temple later to Jomsom. Finally, you catch up the flight to Pokhara from where you back to Kathmandu.
