Bhutan Travel 8 days : Paro Thimphu Punakha Gangtey Trongsa Tour is a remarkable travel holiday in Bhutan. It includes five tourist destinations: Paro, Thimphu, Punakha, Gangtey, and Trongsa. All of them are culturally as well as naturally featured places.
The 8 days Bhutan tour starts traveling to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. Here, you will visit Tashichho Dzong: The complex of Government Secretariat, National Assembly and the office of King with his throne room; Memorial Chorten: The stupa built in the memory of 3rd King regarded as the Father of modern Bhutan; National Library; Institute of traditional medicine; Temple and Museums.
After Thimphu, you travel to Punakha which is the past capital of Bhutan and visit Punakha Dzong: The most beautiful among all ancient fortresses in Bhutan and it contains many precious relics. Then you set off your journey to explore scenic Gangtey valley followed by Trongsa.
Gangtey is also famous as the home of endangered black-necked cranes with the impressive Gangtey monastery. Likewise, Trongsa is the historic place from where the attempts of unifying the country were launched. The first and second King ruled Bhutan from Trongsa ancient seat. After sightseeing in Trongsa you drive back to Paro.
In Paro you visit National Museum, Ancient fortresses, Farm House, Temple followed by hiking to Tiger’s Nest Monastery: Miraculous Monastery is located on the side of the cliff.
Lastly, on the 8th day, this trip ends after you are transferred to Paro International Airport for the flight to your onward journey.
Getting into Bhutan
There are only two Airlines (Druk Air and Bhutan Airlines) which flying in and out of Bhutan. Both airlines have a flight from Kathmandu to Paro and vice versa. Paro is the only international airport of Bhutan. Thus, you may start your journey to Bhutan via Kathmandu Nepal, the Himalayan country with Mount Everest.

Highlight: Arrival in Paro International Airport. Meeting and greeting you by our representative. Drive to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. In the evening stroll around the city.
Overnight in Thimphu
Highlight: In Thimphu visit of Tashichho Dzong (The major landmark in Thimphu is the center of religious as well as administrative activities. It houses Central Secretariat, National Assembly and the office of King), Memorial Chorten (The stupa built in the memory of Bhutan’s Third King regarded as Father of modern Bhutan), National Library, Arts & Crafts School, Textile Academy, Folk Heritage Museums. Late afternoon drive to Punakha crossing Dochula pass (3080m).
Overnight in Punakha
Highlight: After breakfast visit of Punakha Dzong (Ancient majestic fortresses standing on an island between the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers which contains many precious relics from the days when Punakha was capital of Bhutan). Then drive to Gangtey valley (Also called Probjikha is one of the most beautiful destinations in Bhutan and also the winter home of endangered black necked cranes that arrive every year from the Tibetan Plateau). Here you visit of Gangtey Monastery (Located on a small hill that rises from the valley floor and is surrounded by a large village), Black Necked Crane Information Center (This center has an observation room equipped with high power telescope for catching the best view of the cranes) and villages.
Overnight in Gangtey
Highlight: Rejoin the east west highway to Pele la pass (3420m) marked by prayer flags. After Pele la pass the road gradually drops passing through Kgebji village, Sephu village, Chendebji village followed by large Chendebji Chorten and arrive to Trongsa. In Trongsa visit of Trongsa Dzong (It is an architectural masterpiece of Bhutan. Constructed in 1644 and located on the top of an imposing hill, this dzong (Palace) creates an impressive sight for miles around) and Trongsa Tower (Also called Ta Dzong is an attractive museum in an historic tower that represents a tasteful blend of tradition and modernity. There are 224 items on display).
Overnight in Trongsa
Highlight: From Trongsa re-trace the same route for drive back to Wangdue Phodrang. This town is also famous for its fine bamboo products, slate and stone carvings. Here it’s worth visit to Wangdue Phodrang Dzong but now it is no longer available for visit as it is completely gutted down by the devastating fire on 24th June 2012.
Overnight in Wangdue Phodrang
Highlight: Morning drive to Paro en route visit Simtokha Dzong (The oldest fortress of the Kingdom built in 1627). In Paro visit of Ta Dzong (National Museum) and Rinpung Dzong (Fortress built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the first spiritual and temporal ruler of Bhutan, this Dzong houses the monastic body of Paro, the office of district administrative head and court of Paro district.
Overnight in Paro
Highlight: Early morning drive to the base camp of Tigers’s Nest Monastery (Locally known as Taktsang Monastery is located in the side of cliff of the Upper Paro Valley where Guru Padmasambhava landed on the back of a tigress in the 8th century). Hike up to the monastery. It’s about two hours hike up the cafeteria. From this point, enjoy the spectacular view of the monastery. Hike back to the road. Then go for visit to Drukgyal Dzong (The ruined fort), Local farm house and Kyichu Lhakhang (One of the oldest and most sacred shrines in Bhutan). Evening stroll around the main shopping district in Paro.
