Poon Hill Trekking is one of the most popular treks near Pokhara in the heart of the Annapurna region. This trek gives breathtaking views of snowy rugged Annapurna and the Dhaulagiri Himalayan range. Poon Hill at an altitude of 3210 meters from sea level is the highest point of this trek. It’s a dream of all to enjoy the sunrise view over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himalayan range from Poon Hill. Walking through small settlements is the feature of the Ghorepani Trekking. One of the world’s biggest rhododendron forests is another attraction of this trekking route.

After one night’s stay in Pokhara, you take a short car ride to Nayapul (1100 m) village. Climbing along the trail through a number of beautiful villages and forest areas you follow the river bank to Tirkhadunga (1557 m) where you stop for a night halt.

Next day, further ascending along the trail to Ghorepani-2850 m (all the way up the hill, crossing 3000 steps), you will be left in sheer awe at the clear views of the towering expanse of Mt. Dhaulagiri I (8167 m) and Annapurna I (8091 m). The highlight of the Ghorepani trek is a visit to Poonhill (3210 m) early the next day, from where we will be able to see a spectacular sunrise over the whole Himalayan range and surrounding rice terraces (a photographer’s paradise!).

After breakfast, you trek east to Tadapani (2590 m), crossing some of the most spectacular rhododendron forests. This is where you’ll be left open-mouthed at the breathtaking views of the fishtail-shaped Mt. Macchapucchre (6900 m), Annapurna South (7219 m), and Gangapurna (7454 m).

From Tadapani you trek to one of the most famous mountain villages called Ghandruk. Ghandruk is the biggest Gurung village in the Annapurna region. This is also known as a stone-carved village. From Ghandruk you further hike to Kimche. Then drive back to Pokhara followed by Kathmandu.

POON HILL TREK FROM KATHMANDU

Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara, 200 km west of Kathmandu.

Early Morning (7.00 AM) departure to Pokhara by Tourist Bus. The reporting time to reach at Tourist Bus Station at Sorahkhutte near Thamel at 6:30 AM. It’s a scenic drive to Pokhara from Kathmandu along the banks of the Trishuli and Marshyandi rivers. Arrive in the Pokhara around 2 Pm. Check-in hotel. Relax then walk along Lakeside Street to explore the Fewa Lake and market on your own. Overnight at a hotel in Pokhara

Note: Every day there are regular flights from Kathmandu to Pokhara/ from Pokhara to Kathmandu. Thus, you can book a flight with us to Pokhara at an additional cost.

Day 2: Drive from Pokhara to Naya Pul. Trekking to Tikhe Dhunga (Alt. 1540m/ 5005ft) or Ulleri. Walking 5/6 hours.

After breakfast at the hotel, you take a drive for nearly 1.5 hours from Pokhara to Nayapul. From Nayapul, the trek begins by ascending through beautiful rice, millet, and maize fields past villages like Birethanti and Sudami. Reach Hile (1,495m) and continue your journey to Tikhedhunga. Tikhedhunga is a small village on the bank of the small river that offers to anyone its native Magar Culture. You have the option of either spending the night in Tikhedhunga or climbing to reach Ulleri (2073m). Overnight at Mountain Lodge.

Day 3: Trekking from Tikhe Dhunga to Ghorepani (Alt. 2860m/9295ft). Walking 6 hours.

The trail rises to Ulleri village, through uncountable steps and you attain the Ulleri Village from where you can see the incredible views of terraces and river down to the valley. As you leave Ulleri, a town of glistening views, culture, and hospitality, you walk along the trail made out of stone all the way to Ghorepani. You pass along the way with Annapurna on your right and a wild flowering forest and wet soiled hills on your left. Ghorepani is a beautiful village with panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himalayan ranges. This village is one of the most popular villages on the whole route. Day 4: Early morning trekking from Ghorepani to Poon Hill. Then to Tadapani. (Alt. 2630m/8548ft). Walking 7 hours.

Early in the morning when the stars are shining you will climb towards Poon Hill to enjoy fabulous sunrise over Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himalayan range. Poon Hill is a viewpoint that more than 300 trekkers visit every day during the main season. From here we will be enjoying close views of numerous peaks including Dhaulagiri I, II, III, IV, V, Dhampus Peak, Nilgiri, Barahsikhar, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Fishtail, etc. You will then get back to our hotel where your breakfast will be served. You will continue our walk towards Tadapani. The trail today gives you magnificent views every step of the way. Enjoy small waterfalls, Himalayan views, and small settlements of small communities. During the walk, you will be passing different stops like Deurali and Banthanti. From Banthanti you will be walking some ups and downs before climbing uphill to reach Tadapani. Overnight at Mountain Lodge.

Day 5: Trekking from Tadapani to Ghandruk (1940m/6360 ft) to Kimche (1070m/3477ft).Walking 4/5 hours. Drive from Kimche to Pokhara. Driving 3 hours.

We will enjoy our breakfast in the hotel with close views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Fishtail before you start your journey to Ghandruk. It is mostly a downhill walk through Rhododendron and Oak forests with occasional views of wild animals. The beautiful views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Fishtail will be always with you. Once you complete walking through the forest you reach Bhaisikharka. Continuing further down you will then reach Ghandruk, which is the biggest Gurung village in the region. This is also known as a stone-carved village. From Ghandruk you further hike to Kimche. Then drive back to Pokhara. Overnight at a hotel in Pokhara

Day 6: Drive back from Pokhara to Kathmandu.

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Tourist Bus Terminal at Pokhara. Then you board the tourist bus. You will follow the same highway through beautiful rivers, hills, and small Nepalese settlements. The drive will take about 7 hours to drop you off in Kathmandu.

POON HILL TREK FROM POKHARA
